Personal Information

Erik Kofoed hails from Sioux Falls, South Dakota where he got his start playing F horn. He received his Bachelors Degree from the prestigious Eastman School of Music with a Director’s Award in Chamber Music, and his Masters of Music Degree from the University of Maryland which he attended on a brass quintet fellowship. He has performed with the Harrisburg, Syracuse, Annapolis, South Dakota, World Youth Symphony Orchestra, and Youth American Jazz Philharmonic Orchestras. He was a founding member and played for 7 years with the Prism Brass Quintet, winners of the 1999 University of Georgia Brass Quintet Competition and finalists in the 2001 Concert Artist Guild Competition. Erik has performed in hundreds of educational concerts around the country and participated in educational residencies in Prince Georges County Maryland and a Chamber Music America Rural Residency in Down East Maine. In addition to performing, Erik is an avid composer and arranger and his works have been performed by the Eastman Horn Choir, Midtown Brass Quintet, Prism Brass Quintet, Riverside Chamber Players, and in recital at major conservatories. Erik is currently working with a Pop/Classical chamber group called Mercury Season and Balkan Brass Band, the Mercury Orkestar.
